Latcham Art Centre

Founded in 1979 by local artists and named for the philanthropist who backed its first Main Street space, Latcham spent four decades as a small, well-loved community gallery. In 2018 it moved into a purpose-built home at the Stouffville Leisure Centre: a larger space, a broader public mandate, and a website that still spoke for the organisation it used to be. Twelve exhibitions a year, school and studio programming, community shows and public art were all running through a site designed for a storefront gallery.

The Mandate
Not a rebrand. The name and identity stayed. The work was to clarify Latcham’s market position, sharpen the value proposition it put in front of the public, and redesign the website so it functioned as the front door of a civic arts institution. That meant a user experience built around the people who actually use it: visitors planning a trip, families registering for programs, artists submitting work, and partners and funders looking for proof of the organisation’s reach. It had to sit comfortably beside municipal and library partners without being absorbed by them.
The Outcome
A clearer position, a stronger value proposition, and a website sized to the mandate rather than the history. The UX and UI carry the organisation’s full program without burying it, and the site now presents Latcham the way a public institution is expected to present itself. It is also the case we point to when someone assumes this work only suits large industrial clients: the same discipline that served a thousand-person group in Alberta served a small arts organisation with a board and a public to answer to.
